Resources for Mise-en-scene
The Locations
· Chingford in Sharuk’s house (this is where Priya finds out she’s going to get an arrange marriage).
· High Beech Forest/Lake (for the dumping of the body).
· College (build-up of the story) background noise can be an issue but can resolved at editing.
· In the car (travelling to High Beech and back).
Props
· General home furniture for e.g sofa, television, dining table.
· A suitcase (Priya’s body is put into).
· Car (Suitcase is put into the boot of the car).
· Bin Liner/ Reusable black bin bag.
Costumes
· Multi-cultural clothing to show the ethnicity of characters.
· Make-up for blood, cuts and bruises for the characters that have beaten.
· Hoodies and bandanas is worn when Priya is attacked.
Lighting
The lighting of the film is mostly going to be natural lighting
There may be some lighting problems depending on the time of the filming in High Beech Forest/ Lake.

The Script - (First Draft)
INT – House - Day
Priya who has just woken up is walking down the stairs to go and greet her parents and get some breakfast. As she enters the kitchen her parents who were talking very animatedly stop talking. They look at her with excitement on their faces.
Priya Mum Dad
Morning. What’s
happened? Why are
you two so excited?
(Smiles)
Well Priya we’ve had some
really good news.
Go on. Tell all.
I’m excited now too.
(Clears throat)
Your mother and I have
been looking for someone
suitable to marry you…
(Looks shocked)
And we’ve come to a …
Oh Rikesh stop stalling
Priya we’ve found you a
husband. You’re to marry
in two months.
I… I…
(Bursts into tears)
Why are you crying child?
This is a great honour.
(Whispers)
I don’t want to.
Speak up Priya.
(Shouts)
I DON’T WANT TO!
Priya then runs out of the kitchen to her bedroom. We hear her parents shouting after her but she doesn’t acknowledge them. Once in her room still in tears she looks around for her phone. When she finds her phone she texts Jamal and asks him to come and pick her up. Priya puts her phone down and goes to get dressed. As she is dressing we hear the doorbell ring. She looks at her door with a scared look on her face. She thinks its Jamal. From downstairs we hear mumbled voices of her mother and a man. A door slams downstairs and she hears a car pull out of the driveway. The camera then cuts to her phone which is on her bed. It’s vibrating. She looks and see’s she has a text from Jamal saying that he’s outside her house. She pulls on her jacket, leaves her room and leaves the house. The camera cuts to the window which her uncle is peering out of. She doesn’t notice him when she gets into the car
INT – House – Day
Uncle Lovely moves from the window and calls Deepesh over. They decided to go into Priya’s room to see if they can find anything to tell them who the unknown boy in the car is to her. The camera then shots to Uncle Lovely and Deepseh searching frantically in Priya’s room. Uncle Lovely looks under the bed and finds a box of things that Jamal has given to Priya. They also find Jamal’s address.
EXT – High Beech – Day
We see Priya and Jamal entering a fieldy area. They walk over to a bench and sit down.
Jamal Priya
Priya I love you so much and I’ve
been thinking... that I want to spend
the rest of my life with you. Do you
get what I’m getting at?
Aww Jamal. But no I don’t see where this
is going.
Well Priya I wondered if... well, will
you do me the honour of marrying me?
Priya will you marry me?
Priya looks at Jamal in shock. She opens her mouth and closes it again. Jamal disappointed with her reaction starts to look impatient.
Priya? Priya? Answer me please.
I don’t know what to say. I, I…
Priya. Just give me an answer
Jamal, not impressed with Priya starts to get angry and he slams his hand down on the bench. This seems to startle Priya.
I can’t. I’m so sorry.
Priya gets up from the bench and walks away. Jamal looks upset but he doesn’t go after her.
INT – House – Night
Priya enters the house and takes off her shoes. As she turns to go up the stairs her Uncle calls her and asks her to come into front room. Priya enters the front room and she sees her Uncle and brother standing by the fire place. Her mother is sitting on the sofa.
Mum Uncle Lovely
Priya, sit down.
I’m going to get straight to the point.
We know you’ve been seeing that black
boy. What do you think you’re doing
causing shame to your mother? Stop
seeing him now. This is your first and
final warning.
Yes Priya. Listen to your Uncle. Do
you understand me?
Priya nods her head and leaves the room. Her Uncle and brother leave the house.
EXT – Alleyway – Night
Jamal is walking down an alley on the phone to someone. It’s getting dark and he doesn’t realise that there is someone following him. As he is walking down the alley another figures comes out from a bush and stands in front of him. Jamal turns around to see if he can leave the alley but the person who was following him is standing behind. He realises that he’s in trouble and drops his phone on the floor. (Priya’s uncle is standing behind Jamal and Priya’s brother is standing in front of him.) They come close to him and push him against the wall. Uncle Lovely punches him to the floor and Deepesh kicks him repeatedly.
Jamal Uncle Lovely
Ayy. Who are you?
Don’t fucking come near Priya again or I’ll make sure
you never walk again.
Deepesh kicks him again for good measure then him and Uncle Lovely walk off
INT – House – Day
Priya is in her bedroom when her phone vibrates. It’s a text from Jamal asking for them to meet up really quickly. Priya gets dressed and leaves the house to go and meet Jamal.
EXT – Bus stop – Day
Jamal Priya
Babes, yesterday I got jumped.
Oh my gosh. By who?
I don’t know but they told me to
stay away from you. I’m guessing
it was your brother?
Jamal I’m so sorry. It was my Uncle and Brother
I’m guessing. They told me not to see you anymore
As they are talking they don’t realise Deepesh is walking on the other side of the road, he notices them and walks off. Priya and Jamal say goodbye to each other and leave the bus stop.
INT – House – Night
Priya enters the house. She takes off her shoes and runs up the stairs to her room. As she gets to the top of the stairs she sees her Uncle Lovely standing there, waiting.
Uncle Lovely Priya
Where have you been?
With friends.
Don’t lie to me. I know you’ve been
with that black boy haven’t you?
what did we tell you about him?
You’re a disgrace to your mother.
She’s trying to do you right by
finding you a nice Indian boy...
(He notices that Priya isn’t even looking at him.)
LOOK AT ME WHEN I’M TALKING TO
YOU.
(Priya looks up.)
But I love him.
You love him?
(Laughs)
You don’t know what love is. You’re
a disgrace.
He then slaps Priya hard on her face. We see her head hit the wall and she falls...falls down the stairs. We then see Priya at the bottom of the stairs. Her head moves a little then she is still. The camera is then from her point of view and we see her vision go black as something hits her in her face. We then see a suitcase with legs that are presumably Priya’s hanging out of it. In the shot there s also another pair of legs and we see hands putting the legs into the suitcase.
EXT – High Beech – Day
We see two figures acting suspiciously in the forest. It turns out to be Uncle Lovely and Deepesh. They are disposing of the suitcase that Priya’s body is in.
EXT – Bush somewhere – Day
There’s a phone in a bush ringing. The camera zooms in and we see that it’s Jamal calling and it’ Priya’s phone.
