Description of narrative structure and use of film language
Structure/form
Priya and Jamal are in a relationship. Priya finds out that her parents want to have her married off to man from back home so she retaliates against this. Her parents then find out that she is in a relationship with a person that they do not approve of. They arrange for her and Jamal to be punished for bringing disgrace to their family. Priya’s brother and his affiliates who subsequently find Jamal and brutally beat him up as a result of his and Priya’s secret relationship. Priya is punished and as a result of her punishment she dies. When she dies her brother puts her body in a suitcase and dumps it in High Beech.
Mise-en-scene
The majority of this film will be set in Priya’s house (Sharuk’s house; Chingford) because we’ll be seeing her with her family a lot. The scenes with Jamal and Priya will be in the East London district vicinity, Walthamstow possibly because it’s close to Monoux and Chingford. We will also be filming in either High Beech or Epping Forest for when we see the Brother and Uncles dumping the body in the forest. We’ll be using a car so that we can see Priya’s Uncles driving to and from certain areas; we’ll be using a suitcase which is an important part of our film as this will be where they put Priya’s body just before they dump it in the forest. The clothes the characters will be wearing inside the house will be very traditional clothing to this culture. The lighting we will be using is natural lighting to make it look as realistic as possible.
Cinematography
Because of the genre that our film is we won’t be using any complicated shot types or camera movements because we want it to be as realistic as possible. We'll be using shot types like point of view shot, establishing shots, drivers eyes shots etc
Sound
As the characters in our film are of a Asian background, the music that we will have over certain parts of our film will be bhangra. But also because it is modern and set in present day we will have a bit of ‘urban’ music also. We won’t have any voice overs or any audio affects except for back ground music because our piece is a social drama and we want it to be as realistic as possible.
Editing (pace and style)
In terms of editing, we've decided not to be to drastic on the editing as if it's an action film, it's not it's a social drama which means we need to retain continuity and ensure the pace normally as life does.
