Introducing Honourable Love

The Pitch

The film concept our production group have compiled is entitled "Honourable Love" which is a social drama based on a forbidden interracial relationship which was between two of the main characters Priya who's an eighteen year old girl of Indian dissent and Jamal who's an eighteen year old boy of Afro Caribbean dissent.
Their relationship which had been going on for a number of years they feel is at the highest point that they can be in in a relationship and they agree that they will both go to her house one day after college to tell her parents about them, but at breakfast one day her parents decide that they're going to give their daughter a arranged marriage. Priya meets her fiance on webcam then retaliates saying that she wont get married to him, she's in love with Jamal and they're going to get married. Her family are shocked and ashamed by the Revelations of their daughter not obeying their commands and dating someone who is not of the same tight knight religious culture, Her parents instigate a plan to hurt Jamal at all costs to prevent him from still seeing her daughter and due to shame that Priya has caused on their family and have her killed.
So Priya's overprotective brother sets out on his mission to find Jamal and beat him up with the help of his affiliates they capture him, give him a hiding and enforce that he cannot continue seeing Priya;which he agrees to as a precaution not to experience anymore brutality from her raging brother. The concluding part to his assigned mission from his shamed parents is to kill his now outcast sister as a result of the shame she has brought upon her family.
Not long afterwards he stumbles across her and brutally attacks her without showing any remorse, the severity of his attack intensifies as he lunches at her with a knife and stabs her repetitively, Not long after she succumbs to her injuries and dies; He then wraps her dead body in a black bin liner and shoves it a suitcase in the boot of his awaiting car and calmly drives up to High Beech where he dumps the suitcase in a dense part of the forest, showing no remorse or emotion whatsoever he calmly drives away.
Ideas for a Film Poster
We've decided upon an initial idea that our poster that will publicise our film will have special font in an Hindi/Punjabi typeface and the dominant colours will home the Indian national flag colours; Next we'll have images of both Jamal & Priya embracing each other in the foreground of the poster with her arranged fiancee over her shoulder in the background along with Priya's family dominating the background.A profile of who your target audience is
The target audience for our film is split into two targets - Primary and secondary, the Primary target audience will specify for the age group 16-25 with the Secondary target audience intended for the age category 25-44, we also can't rule out that an older age category may not be drawn to watch this film but maybe not on the same level as the primary and secondary target audience; Also this film covers a fairly taboo genre which is more than likely to be an eye opener to those willing to learn and gain an incite into what occurs in the South Asian community.

A Generic profile of your film
The generic profile of our film is that it's a social drama relating to culture in South Asian continent when it comes to Arranged marriages which are fairly common in Southern Asian culture and Honour Killings which aren't as frequently documented as Arranged Marriages but Honour Killings are a more severe case. Our Production company opted upon creating a film to this nature as a result of the topics not being brought to light and documented mainstream as it should, also very few know about either of the aforementioned topics other than those within the Southern Asian community, which relates back to the film's main purpose.

Descriptive background on how the film will look and sound

Film Language
As the purpose of the film is to inform and give an insight into quite a taboo & relatively unknown topic. To try and retain realism the major of the film will be spoken in Formal English, When Priya's brother is out on his mission with his affiliates, they'll be speaking slang too one another, also to retain the aspect of social realism whilst Priya is in a video call to her arranged spouse, if the spoken conversation is in Urdu or Punjabi, the language will be chosen at a later date will add to the characters background.

Use of camera
As the main concept of this film is to retain the element of social realism, the use of camera will be limited to mirror movements that are seen/used in everyday life, so we intend to use point of view shots, close up shots to emphasise how the characters will be feeling during dialogue, we will also use 'Shot reverse shot' whilst a conversation is taking place between two characters; we might even through in a drivers eye shot of Priya's brother driving the car to abandon her body after murdering her.

mise-en-scene
In terms of location, we intend to use areas and locations that are local for us to film in case we have to re-shoot any shots, also we intend to use locations that are relevant to filming such a the dense forest where we'll be able to dispose of Priya's body; Props will also be relevant to the synopsis of the film for instance: Costumes will match social and culture backgrounds from the characters seen in the film.

Sound
mise-en-scene, their will be some sound studio produced others will be natural.#
editing
in terms of editing, as we want to make the film as realistic as possible the editing won't be as drastic as action movies as this movie's intended purpose is to be as realistic as a the real life experience we're trying to portray to the audience.

Narrative theory/approaches
The equilibrium will start of with Priya and Jamal's relationship running smoothly until Priya's family who offer Priya to an arrange Marriage with a distant relative from her native India which has led her to decline due to her secret relationship with Jamal which she has to break from but also her Western cultural influences; Which enforces her family to take drastic measures as she has brought shame upon her family which has now become the disruption; The disruption continues whilst Priya's brother finds items Jamal gave to Priya during their relationship and assumes that their relationship is the reason why she declined the arranged marriage proposal he brings this the family's attention who decide it's best if Priya gets killed. Her brother beats up Jamal brutally and Kills Priya and disposes her body in a dense forest. The new equilibrium is Jamal searching for his true love Priya and Priya's family continuing life as normal.

Key Representational issues
Gender One of the key representational issues involving gender is how we're trying to show incite into how females do not have a say when it comes to arranged marriages and that they're forced to live a life of unhappiness.

Ethnicity
The main characters are of southern Asian dissent and once again the purpose of our film is to show an incite into a culture which isn't as focused upon in everyday society.

Age
We show both ends of the spectrum when it comes to age with the younger generations views on Arranged marriage and the older generation's views on love and relationships.
